FILM CASE STUDY PRE 1990's TRAILER -GOODFELLAS

Use of dialogue?
There is quite a lot of dialogue in this trailer however only a handful of them can be understood because most of the dialogue taking place is between the men and they're shouting. There was a quote that stood out for me and it was the scene where he's the club and the women asks him "what do you do" and he says "i'm a construction worker", this to me highlights the fact the he knows what he's doing is bad so he has lie in order for people to accept him.

What can you say about the use of music?
When there was a close up of the gun , straight away it was the piano playing, which made light of the situation. T

What do you learn about the characters?
We learn that the main character has always aspired to become a gangster and he finally becomes one. There are other characters in the trailer however, we don't get to know them properly so therefore can't make judgement. Although, we do see a glimpse of his parents. His father seems to be quite protective as in the begin he gives the son advice. His mother seems like typical mother who cares about what their children look like in terms of what people think about them. His gang seem to have a lot of influence over him as his partakes in there criminal/deviant activities.

What can be said about the editing and therefore the narrative?
The trailer includes basic transition such black fade into the actual scene, because of the transitions we are able to see the boy in beginning as a young boy and growing into a successful gangster.

what does the mise en scene tell us about the film?
The men are in suits throughout the whole trailer which tells us that the film is a typical gangster mafia film. Props such as cigars, guns, large sums of money and fancy cars reinforces the fact that it's a typical gangster film. The females in the trailer are always in dresses and are sexualised to a certain extent. For instance we see the women from the club getting in bed with the main character in a silky pink night gown, however her hair is all done up and she has make up on.

How does the trailer begin and end?
The trailer begins with a quote said by the father  "never run on your friends and always keep your mouth shut" then it goes straight into a narrator which I assume is the main character. He starts of by saying "as far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a gangster". This quotes makes the audience feel as though he is telling them a personal story. The trailer ends with a montage of all the events taken place in his his life and the narrator says "a new generation carries on a old tradition"
